Ecohomes XB (Exisiting buildings) could have a significant impact on helping improve the country’s social housing stock. EcohomesXB has the potential to raise the performance of 4 million homes and the living conditions of those who are resident in them.
This tool, developed by BRE in conjunction with the Housing Code, allows stock holders of housing to assess and monitor the environmental performance of their stock.
EcoHomesXB is an easy-to-use, desk-based, self-assessment tool which has been designed to:
- Assess and monitor the environmental performance of housing stock.
- Track improvements made during routine maintenance and minor improvements.
- Provide a constant monitor of performance against a benchmark figure.
- Highlight areas that require attention, and help prioritise maintenance and refurbishment works.
- Assist and guide overall performance whilst recognising the restraints and practicalities facing existing housing.
Unlike other BREEAM versions, EcoHomesXB does not give a rating of PASS, GOOD, VERY GOOD or EXCELLENT but is based on a single score allowing stock holders to benchmark their initial performance and then set realistic targets leading to an eventual goal.
