The Scope of the Code
Many house builders who currently use Ecohomes will find the credit system of the Code familiar. Users will notice that there are new mandatory minimum levels of performance that have been introduced across 6 key issues:
- Energy efficiency/CO2.
- Water efficiency.
- Surface water management.
- Site Waste Management.
- Household Waste Management.
- Use of Materials.
- The Code Scoring System
The Code has a scoring system of six levels. Successive levels are reached by achieving the appropriate mandatory minimum standards and further scoring against additional ‘flexible’ standards. Code Level 3 is approximately equal to the Ecohomes VERY GOOD score.
Compliance with the Code
Code assessments are carried out in two phases:
- An initial assessment and interim certification are carried out at the design stage. This is based on design drawings, specifications and commitments and results in the issuing of an interim certificate of compliance.
- Final assessment and certification are carried out after construction. They are based on the design stage review and on confirmation of compliance with reference to site records and visual inspection.
